Darrius is the younger son of Rashida. He's three years old--a little muscle-bound, heavy-voiced, comical-personalitied, loving-spirited, charming-dispositioned little guy! He literally lights up a room when he enters!
I haven't had the oppportunity to have Darrius' little personality in my home every day, but when he's here, he's a blast--a little busy-bodied blast!
Darrius' passion is football. He sits and watches football with the interest and concentration level of a grown man! When his mom Rashida neeeds to keep him preoccupied, she merely puts on a video of a football game, and he will watch it for hours...literally, hours...non-stop!
...And not only does he watch the video, he's up and running every play. He really knows the game...inside...out!
His little body is built like a football player. He already looks like he has all the pads, etc. on. That's just how he's built--little short, muscular frame...with huge calfs and thighs, buldging arm muscles, a big round bald head, with big pretty eyes that twinkle and glisten with happiness when he smiles his wide, broad, constantly glowing smile.
Then, when you add his little comical personality to his total demeanor, he's just a little barrel of fun and laughter.
Darrius loves to play and joke with people--especially his grandpa!
The two of them are a mess together. They joke and poke fun at each other all the time!
Although Darrius is only a year older than Jaxsen and Mykah, he's the little boss. His one-year maturity advantage gives him the seniority in their little league, and he loves to take advantage of it too. Sometimes I'll ask Darrius to tell the kids to come to me. Not only will he deliver the message, he'll BRING them to me...sometimes pulling them by their arms or shoulders. "Come on in here!" he'll tell them authoratatively. And they obey his orders. Although he doesn't get violent with them, they know he's so much stronger than they are, and they don't want his overpowering strength on them.
Seriously though, they all get along just fine...thoroughly enjoy being with each other.... They're just three peas in a pod!
Since Darrius lives in Oklahoma, we don't get a chance to spend a lot of time with him. However, Rashida occasionally leaves him with us for a week or two. When he was about a year and a half, she left him with us, and although he did just fine, he was really upset with her when she came to pick him up.
He was so upset with his mom that he wouldn't even kiss her or have anything to do with her. He wouldn't talk to her...wouldn't even look at her, and wouldn't even sleep with her that night--and he always LOVES to sleep with his mom. He simply hovered under me the whole time. The next morning, he warmed up to Rashida a little. But he was toooooooo upset with her for leaving him a whole week!
We did accomplish one thing during that week though. He decided to stop sucking his bottle, which he totally depended on before that.. And it wasn't difficult for him to leave his bottle behind. I bought him a sippy cup and gave him all his beverages in it, and he had no problem with it. I really enjoyed that week of bonding with my precious little Darrius.
I'm really looking forward to Darrius coming to visit us this week. Rashida, Gwen, and a few friends are going to Jamacia for five days. Elijah's in school, and Darrius is coming to visit us for a week. Can't wait--two days away!
This time, our objective is to get him potty trained. We'll see!
