17-Year Old Black Male
Shot, Killed... by 28-Year Old White Man.
No Arrest Made After Three Weeks...
Seventeen-year-old Travon Martin of Sanford, Florida was
walking from a store to his father’s home with only a bag of Skittles candy and
an iced-tea drink in his hand.
Twenty-eight year old George Zimmerman, the self-appointed community
watch volunteer saw Martin and called 911.
His complaint—a black man was walking down the street ...probably up to no good. Although the 911 dispatcher told him to
disregard it and not to follow Martin, Zimmerman proceeded to follow him; and wthin
a few minutes, shot him. Martin died,
pleading for his life; Zimmerman was NOT arrested. This incident happened three weeks ago, and there still has not been an arrest. Millions of mostly Blacks all over the nation are enraged about this very, very, very troubling matter. Radio and television talk shows are aghast with indignation; and the Internet is brimming full of posts, blogs and videos about this heartrending incident.
However, my observation is that well over 90 percent of those expressing outrage are black people. Whites voicing concern and outrage are generally talk show hosts and a few liberal whites who are brave enough to be identified as being appalled about the vast systemic racism that still runs rampant in America.
Conservative Republicans,,, Noticeably Silent
America’s huge crowd of conservative republicans are either silent or supportive of Zimmerman, the murderer of the totally innocent victim,Travon Martin. There have been ridiculous accounts of how Zimmerman was right to suspect Martin. They claim that there had been other incidents of burglaries and violence in that neighborhood; yet no specific cases have been revealed. The only evidence of these cases is that Zimmerman himself has made over forty similar calls to 911 this year. All... to no avail; all...similar to the Martin/Zimmerman situation, with no culprit for Zimmerman's racist claims. The problem seems to be that Zimmerman has an out-of-control tendency to racially profile blacks, which is the ultimate symptom of systemic racism.
What are Conservatives' Actual Sentiments about the Travon Williams Case?
It is obvious that blacks are outraged about this case. Their sentiments are all over the media. However whites, especially conservative whites, are virtually silent.
Generally, the only conservatives who even address this case are radio and television news personalities and talk show hosts, who express some degree of outrage as they interview their mostly-all-black guests.
And, of course, the entire world is literally shocked that America has descended to this level of racist lunacy. But, what about conservatives? How do they feel? Do they, like George Zimmerman, think that justice was served...
·
That it’ is appropriate to follow suspicious-looking black males in white
neighborhoods?
·
That blacks have no business walking the streets in white neighborhoods?
· That the “Stand your ground” law is useful and just?
· That Zimmerman should be applauded as a communitywatch volunteer
· That segregated neighborhoods are alright in America?
· That whites deserve privileged status in society?
· That blacks do not deserve the same opportunities as whites?
· That blacks are taking traditionally allotted privileges from whites?
· That black young men are basically bad people and have no right
to be in white neighborhoods?
· That the rampant crime in society is caused by all blacks, not just a very tiny percentage (less than 5 percent of blacks)
·
That the vast economic disparities in society have nothing to do with
rampant crime rates?
·
That blacks have no desire to enjoy the same economic opportunities as
whites?
·
That blacks are just lazy, trifling, unmotivated people?
·
That the majority of blacks are not concerned about rampant crime?
What do whites—regular,
everyday, run-of-the-mill white people—really think about the overall racial situation
in America? To whom or what do most
whites attribute the current racial climate of our nation? I wonder....
The George Zimmermans
of the world certainly have no concept of the origin of the disparities that
currently exist in America. They merely see a
society of have’s and have not’s, a society of vast disparities, a society of
rage, bitterness and outright disgust....
Yet...the George Zimmermans of the world do not seem to comprehend the origin and significance of this mass confusion. They don't understand that all of this is based on a history of exploitation, oppression and injustice, which is the result of a totally appalling historical creation! And even more disheartening is the fact that the very same prejudices and racial impediments that existed during slavery are still prominent fixtures in the American ideological landscape in 21st century America.
