Somehow, the masses of Americans are going to have to AWAKEN—to take off the societal-imposed
blinders...to open our eyes, our minds...our very spirits!
We simply must AWAKEN... quickly!
There’s no longer time for us to continue sweltering in a state of childish
naiveté and ignorance ... no time for pretending not to see the glaring Truth
that shines so blatantly before us.
This nation is playing deceptive
“political” games with our minds! America
has filled our minds—our very spirits--with yet another regimen of societal-manufactured
half-truths; some are abject lies! Then,
to add to our confusion, this nation uses a three-fold manipulative technique
to maintain control:· An unjust, untrue, and unfair political agenda;
·
A manipulated and vastly distorted religious regimen;
·
A well-established (over 600-year old) racist value system.
When one considers how these three divergent entities nag and tug against
any semblance of unity and coherence within America’s ranks, one can easily
discern the source of this nation’s difficulties.
America’s
Horrendously Flawed Political Agenda...
America’s two major political
parties—Democrat and Republican—in theory, are two legitimately valid realms of
political thought. In an ideal society,
this would be an appropriate arrangement.
However, politics in America are based on a historical framework that
most of us either totally evade, or attempt to minimize, thereby blatantly denying
the vast magnitude of our heritage—an error which is highly offensive to many
Americans. In other words, our politics are terribly flawed. We refuse to acknowledge the impact that the “peculiar institution” of slavery and its resulting systemic racism has left on this nation. We adamantly refuse to have an honest conversation about this atrocious reality.
·
...a period of incredible inequities for blacks, women, gays, all
non-white male citizens in America;
· ...a time of indescribable pain, agony, hardships...struggles, galore;
·
...a time of brutalities—whippings, beatings, rapes, maiming,
castrations, hangings;
·
...a 400 year span when blacks worked relentlessly like hardened oxen to
build this nation and were not paid one red cent for their hard, hard, hard...
labor;
·
...a time when white wealth soared and blacks had nothing...total poverty;
·
...a time in which man’s inhumanity to humanity soared as never before.
Yet, whites, especially
conservative whites, still refuse to talk about this era...refuse to even
acknowledge that it happened.
When blacks mention
reparations or affirmative action programs, conservative whites respond as if THEY
are highly offended... or as if blacks are
the cause of their own suffering.
Reparations for
Every Group Except Blacks...
On other hand, these
same conservative whites have been supportive of providing reparations and other
forms of compensation for other groups who have suffered offenses at the hands
of America. Still, they are totally
opposed to blacks even suggesting that they deserve compensation for 400 years
of hard, hard, hard labor and for the incredibly cruel and abusive treatment that
their ancestors suffered from whites.
The glaring political
realities that this nation faces are incredible; and until we are able to talk
about them, we will be unable to resolve the huge gap between whites and
blacks. We face centuries of unspoken, unaddressed, unacknowledged political
dilemmas.
Conservative Whites Refuse
to Even TALK about these Issues...
When people refuse to
discuss their disagreements, they are generally headed for disaster. They spend the vast portion of their time
arguing and fighting about little things, never resolving anything at all. After all, neither party knows what the other
is upset about. In order to resolve a
problem, people must face them, discuss them,
ask forgiveness for wrongs done, become sincerely remorseful for wrongs
committed, actually forgive and forget
past injustices.... Only when these steps
are taken can two people, two entities, two organizations, two divergent
groups... take steps in the direction of reconciliation.
The politics of America
are so interwoven in discord, dissention, decay, disarray, mistreatments.... We are still marred in the politics of
American slavery. We never discussed
it...never even bothered to talk about those horrendous evils that we inflicted
upon an entire race of people, simply because of the color of their skin.
We Know Truth; We’re Just in a State of Denial...
As Americans, we knew all along that
we were morally wrong. We knew all along that we
had no right to hold human beings in slavery.
We knew all along that blacks were just as intelligent, just as capable,
just as worthy of humane treatment as whites.
We knew this! Otherwise, why
would we not give them the same opportunities for learning and advancing as we
gave whites? Why would we deem it illegal
for blacks to learn to read and write? The answer is simple—we were afraid that if we
gave them the same privileges as whites, blacks would excel ...would
demonstrate openly that all people are created equal...perhaps, even more equal
than whites.
So we can’t use the
age-old excuse that we thought they were not human beings. We knew better! Otherwise, why would we sneak around and have
sexual and even more intimate relationships with them. Our first President George Washington had an
intense love relationship with Sally Hennings.
The two of them had a large family; and after President Washington’s
death, he deemed that his lover and children be freed and awarded a portion of
his wealth. History is replete with such relationships. There was a white man who married a black woman in my childhood community of Hickory Hill, Arkansas. Mr. Stewart was a white man who fell in love with a black woman. They married. However, once he married a black woman, he became an outcast in the white community. Tradition mandated that he move to the black community because whites refused to allow him to live in the white community. He and his black wife, Mrs. Willie Stewart, had a large lovely family; and all of their mulatto children and grandchildren blended in beautifully with the black community. The black community has always been loving, kind-hearted, forgiving, open-minded, accepting... of whatever situations befell our communities.
As a nation, we cannot
continue to hide behind the lie, the blatant untruth, that we didn’t know that
our past actions against blacks were wrong, evil, ill-intentioned. We knew exactly what we were doing. We were simply mean-spirited, greedy, selfish
people who wanted for ourselves—and for our
people—a comfortable, privileged, wealthy standard of living...at the expense
of black people. And since whites were
in control of this nation’s wealth, we simply took advantage of non-whites.
Now that the despicable,
ugly, evil sins of the past stare us nakedly in the face; we look at their
atrocious ugliness and attempt to deny them.... We try to sweep them under the rug...try to
pretend that they never existed...try to detach ourselves from their wicked
ugliness and their brutal filthiness....
We try to blame their horrendous deeds on our ignorance, our religious
doctrines, our ancestors’ arrogance, our lack of responsibility on all
levels.... However; the details of the
blatant horror of it all continually blows back into our faces, complete with the
horrendous stench and filth and vicious atrocity of it all.Attempts to Rewrite History...
As whites, we tried to
rewrite history; but blacks also lived through the same history. They, too, know what happened; and when we juxtapose
our stories against theirs; something glaringly unjust, unkind, unethical,
immoral... oozes back out of the pages of our past and rears its ugliness into
our faces, confronting us with the despicable evil of our deeds and the
horrendous vindictiveness of our actions; and there we stand—awestruck, raw
with the ravages of evil and atrocity.
Devastated, we cite the
only excuse we can conjure up with impunity; for we realize that we’ve been
caught red-handed--guilty...as charged. ...no
excuses...no explanations suffice; for we have been detected—guilty... as
charged.
POLITICS...
We try to chalk it up
to POLITICS—that old catch-all term that we use for everything we can’t explain
and make excuses for. POLITICS, we call
the huge lie of our ineptness, our indiscretions, our intentional flings of
evil and injustice.
·
POLITICS, we call those picnics—those “Pick a nigger—any nigger.”
· POLITICS, we call those loud, cheering white community gatherings when we brought forth our “picked nigger” and brutalized so badly as the vast crowd of whites roared with cheers as we whipped, beat, lashed...the “picked nigger” to within an inch of his life.
·
POLITICS, we called that big black iron pot of bubbling, boiling water...just
waiting for us to dip our “picked nigger” finger by finger, hand by hand, foot
by foot, ...excruciating SCREAM by scream....
·
POLITICS, we called those knives we used to cut off our “picked nigger’s”
private parts, castrating his manhood and sending shrill SCREAMS of agonizing
pain into the deep, deep backwoods of Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas.
·
POLITICS, we called the hanging of the limp, barely alive remains of our “picked
nigger” from that tree.
·
POLITICS, we called it, as we left that piece of beaten, burned,
mutilated, maimed... not-even-recognizable piece of battered, bloody,
bludgeoned... flesh, hanging from a tree for the other blacks to see.
It was POLITICS! ...simply POLITICS! Nothing
else....
