Bro. Calvin Sanders: A
symbol of the Spirit of Giving...
1960--2013
Some folks attend a
church for clout -- Their Christian deeds are word-of-mouth;
But not Calvin Sanders; he was devout! He loved the Lord from inside out.
From his kind heart, he worshiped God; his deeds would speak—not
just his mouth.
Calvin’s gift to Christ
this Christmastime was the tree he bought to symbolize
God’s gift of love to humankind.
To adorn the tree,
Calvin chose with care, symbols of love, which Jesus shared—
...The Virgin Mary and her child, with husband Joseph,
too, in smiles,
All...sheltered in a manger
scene—exactly how the Lord decreed!
Then, shining brightly at the top, Calvin placed a glistening,
crystal star.
He, then, arranged throughout the tree, nice images of
Christmas joy—
Angels, ascending gracefully,
Dainty doves that echo peace,
Jingling bells that softly ring ...
All
the beauty and the flare that reflect Christmas in the air—
This, Calvin shared with reverent glee
In symbols on his Christmas tree!
It wasn’t just at Christmastime
that Calvin shone so selflessly.
Calvin worked
relentlessly to help in any way he could!
...Always a smile!
...Always a deed! ...Always a
word of cheer, he had!
Last time I saw Dear Calvin’s
face, he talked and talked and talked and talked...
He talked as if he knew, for sure, that God would
intervene, somehow.
He talked so much that Pa-pa said,
“sshh..sshh...sshh...sshh...” He talked
so long!
Somehow, he felt he must express how he respected and admired
His pastor, whom he loved so much!
He pointed to, both young and old, all attentively immersed
In the message Pastor gave.
“It’s amazing!” Calvin said, “God’s great anointing on this
young man!”
After church, Calvin
showed me a gorgeous set of cuff links—
--a gift from Pa-pa
Mitchell... in appreciation for deeds that Calvin did for him.
Calvin was a giver, a
share-er, a care-er... his brothers’ (and sisters’) burdens-bearer...
A man of God with a great big heart—a sensitive, brilliant,
knowledgeable... man!
So often, we don’t
realize such Godly goodness in our midst until God calls him home to rest!
Calvin’s life on earth is
done; his battles...fought; his victory...won!
God called our dear
friend, Calvin, home; and now, (as James W. Johnson stated in one of his poems)
Now, [Calvin] is resting in the bosom of Jesus.
May we learn... grow...
and become better human beings
...because Calvin touched our lives.
